SCOTT Buchholz has held on to the seat of Wright despite a strong swing to Labor across the nation in the Federal Election.
At the time of print, the Australian Labor Party had 83 (up from 77 in the 2022 election) seats with the LNP 38 seats (down from 58 in the 2022 election).
LNP seats lost included LNP leader Peter Dutton’s seat of Dickson in Queensland.
Buchholz had a swing of 8.58 per cent against him in the first preference count for Wright, but was still well ahead of second-ranked candidate, Pam McCreadie for the Australian Labor Party.
“While there were swings against us in parts of Queensland and we did not win government this time, I’m proud that the LNP continues to enjoy strong support in Wright,” Mr Buchholz said.
“This result is a testament to our shared values and the hard work we’ve done together over the years.”
“I want to acknowledge and thank all the candidates who put their names forward in Wright.
“Running for office is never easy, and their participation is vital to the health of our democracy.
I commend them for their commitment and their contribution to this campaign.”
Mr Buchholz has been the Federal Member for Wright since he was first elected in 2010.
