Beaudesert Country Women’s Association (CWA) hosted Needles & Hooks, a knitting and crocheting competition, on July 18 for Beaudesert to unleash their creativity and have a chance to win cash prizes.

The morning in The Centre consisted of a delightful morning tea, raffles, a two-round knitting and crocheting quiz and the judging of the submitted works.

There were overall 34 entries for the knitting and crochet portion and 29 entries for the sewing and handcraft portion of the competition.

Convenor Charmaine Lamond and Beaudesert CWA President Linda Lynch organised Southeastern Division Craft Teacher Angela Gripske and Southeastern Division Knitting and Crocheting Co-ordinator Heather Kenrick to judge this year’s entries.

“I’m quite interested – I like coming out here. Looking forward to seeing how neat the backs are and the different ideas that some people have and put into being,” Angela said.

“It was very good. There was lots of entries – I always enjoy it, have some laughs when we find some tails. I love my CWA,” Heather said.

CWA members from multiple branches attended the event with Coomera, Beenleigh and Wonglepong joining in on the Beaudesert CWA action.

“It was nice to come out and see the Beaudesert ladies – to support our sister branch,” Coomera CWA Craft Co-ordinator Susan DeVere said.

“The ladies do lovely work here – they’re very clever and some of the work is exceptional.”

Beaudesert CWA member Bernie Grodecki also had a blast filling the shoes of quizmaster for the day with her two-round trivia.

“It went really well – I’m the quizmaster so what I say goes,” Bernie said.

“It’s a lovely group to belong to because we’ve all got different talents – we come together as a group, and we can share our talents with one another.”

“The diversity of all the different talents just makes for a really dynamic group – we bring different things to the table to make it all come together,” she added.

The collective of the 35 winning designs will make their way to division for further judging in September.

Beaudesert CWA would like to thank the judges for their expertise and appreciated the attendees coming out for the day.
