ALFIE Hughes proved that age is just a number when he landed his first hole-in-one at eight years of age.

With six years of practice up his sleeve, Alfie is on his way to becoming a professional golfer.

On the afternoon of Saturday August 10, Alfie finished up his golf lessons at Beaudesert Golf Club with a round of nine holes, playing against the other people having lessons.

When Hole 12 came along, Alfie sunk a hole-in-one at a par three hole with multiple eyewitnesses to account Alfie’s hit into the history books.

His parents Andrew and Rita Hughes were amazed to find out such terrific news casually mentioned by their son.

“It was after his lesson and I came to pick him up – I asked him how his round was, and he said, ‘Yeah, good. I got a hole in one’,” Andrew said.

“We actually didn’t see it, we weren’t there,” Rita said.

“All his mates backed him up. All the older kids were like ‘yeah, yeah, he did, he did’.”

Alfie was surprised to land the hole-in-one, but his determination didn’t stop there as he would like to hit his second hole-in-one on a par five hole.

He appreciates being able to have fun on the golf course and learning new things along the way.

“You can learn new things and it can help with your writing – because you have a score card, and you write down on it,” Alfie said.

“Not that many people can go there, and I feel really lucky when I go.”

Alfie’s love for golf ignited from the moment his hands met his – plastic – golf clubs.

“When he was about two, he was hitting the little plastic clubs in the backyard – he’d go golfing every day if he could,” Rita said.

“That’s all he really watches on television. He’ll watch golf on the sports channel, or on YouTube he watches all the techniques.”

His long-term goal is to be able to play golf in the Brisbane Olympics to show the world his talent.

“He’s aiming for the Olympics – that’s his goal, going to the Brisbane Olympics in 2032,” Rita said.

“So, I can be watched by a lot of people, and I can show my skills,” Alfie said.

Andrew and Rita are extremely grateful for the support of the Beaudesert Golf Club and their persistence in supporting Alfie’s golfing career.
