Tina Street residents, John and Debbie Reid has a long, frightening night when six inches of water went through their Tina Street property on November 11.
The couple, who have lived in the home for over 30 years, spent the night trying to mitigate water racing under their home, worried that it would enter the house.
John says he has not experienced flooding of that type in the time he has lived in his home.
He believes the flooding was due to the way the contractor left the drainage in Tina Street, work which is associated with townhouses under construction in Jane Street.
John also said he is concerned that drainage pipes which have recently been replaced will be insufficient for the water flow in the area.
Scenic Rim Regional Council and the developer, Sherlock Homes Developments, have had numerous complaints from Tina Street residents about the drainage and works associated with the Jane Street development.
Responding to previous complaints, both have stated that works are compliant with regulations.
A Council spokesperson said Council officers attended the Reid’s property within an hour of receiving the complaint from Mr Reid.
“Upon arriving at the residence, officers identified that stormwater had travelled down the road and into the customer’s premise, resulting in dirty water from a development adjacent to his property entering the subject property and deposited silt,” the spokesperson said.
“Officers were able to confirm Mr Reid’s concerns regarding the exterior of the property, which included scarring under the dwelling, but noted that the water did not enter the dwelling.”
“The contractor has since addressed the matter by digging the stormwater swale deeper and putting gravel in front of the customer’s premise.”
An investigation has been initiated by Council and is still underway. Sherlock Homes Developments did not respond to the Beaudesert Bulletin’s questions in relation to this incident.
